Pesky Pests- Bean Leafroller

While walking through the garden today I noticed that our bean plants had some new leaf damage. Not long after, I found a small caterpillar and several egg casings on one of the leaves (pictured). I went plant by plant, removing caterpillars and unhatched eggs where I found them. When I got home I found out that these caterpillars are known as “bean leafrollers” and are the larvae of long-tailed skippers. Turns out the pretty blue butterflies we had been admiring were not as beneficial as we had thought!
