Keeping Track of Costs and Profits

As the semester has started to wrap up, we have been calculating our total costs and total revenues for the garden. It is surprising how quickly costs build up. From equipment to plants, our total cost was well over $500 for a small parcel of land. And this total did not take hours into consideration, for our hours were unpaid and for experience. If we did have to take into account wages, our costs would have far outweighed our profits. The crops that have provided us the greatest profits have been the tomatoes and, surprisingly, the marigolds. Even though these flowers were planted to attract beneficials, their beautiful color and pleasing aroma make them desirable for bouquets. As a result, we were able to make several bouquets from our flowering marigolds.
