Three Sisters- Planting

To begin the process of planting our three sister crops we begin by preparing our first raised bed. To do so we laid compost down first covered by thin cardboard sheets followed by a layer of compost on top to allow weed suppression and prevention. This will also prevent leaching, keep moisture in the bed, and foster the microbiome within the underlying soil. After letting the cardboard settle we proceeded to measure out the optimum growing distance for the Seminole Pumpkin, Kentucky Pole Bean, and Corn. We marked the spaces and began to make incisions in the cardboard to plant our seedlings at surface level in the soil.
