Final Thoughts

As we round out the season, I reflect on the challenges and benefits of our systems as they come to a culmination. The issues discussed in a previous post, such as further stagger plant times, germinating seeds earlier, and better harvesting protocols still remain true as changes that could be made in the future. In addition, ensuring that the drip irrigation is placed on top of the cardboard weed suppression layer, using a compost which has been further broken down so as to not damage tender roots or create immobilization, better delegating tasks to team members for improved efficiency, trimming our end rows and middle rows more often, and pruning back the tomatoes earlier in the season are all lessons taken from this journey. I look forward to implementing these changes in our next season, and I am even more excited to harvest strawberries and hopefully a couple pumpkins before the beds are turned in!
