Pest Management Practices
Over the course of this past week, we did routine maintenance to our garden including pest management from weeds to insects. We began our week with planting more rye seeds between our beds to suppress weed growth in between and to create a clear path for us. Then we began weed removal from along side our raised beds by hand. As we were in the process of weed removal we came across some plants whose roots where being eaten by a colony of ants beneath the soil. We decided to remove these damaged plants and began growing new transplants in the greenhouse. As a group we searched for an organic way to manage and suppress the ants, deciding on trying out coffee grounds from Karma Cream to be used as an ant killer.
