Benefits of Cardboard

The cardboard we laid down at the beginning of the season has once again proven to be an invaluable asset, not only to our farm, but to the environment as well. It has shaded out the majority of the weeds, almost completely decomposed into the soil, kept moisture in, prevented leaching, helped to maintain average soil temperatures, and limited the need for herbicides that destroy the environment. As there was no need for further tilling, this also helps to foster the microbiome including the mycorrhizae. While the initial work of laying the carboard over a large area can be a tedious task, I firmly assert that the rewards outweigh the risks and that the extra work is worth it both for profitability and the Earth. I am curious to locate further ways to more efficiently lay the cardboard though.
